Inter Milan's Brazil striker Adriano will not agree to a loan aimed at improving his chances of regaining a starting place in the Italian champions' striker-heavy line-up.
"Adriano wants to stay at Inter or else be sold outright," the player's agent, Gilmar Rinaldi, said Monday.
Gilmar said he had spoken to the club and been "shocked" by its loan plans.
Adriano has had a disappointing two seasons at Inter and fallen down the pecking order behind Sweden's Zlatan Ibramihovic, Argentina's Hernan Crespo and Julio Cruz, and new signing David Suazo of Honduras.
He was not even named in the squad for Inter's recent Italian Super Cup Final loss to Roma.
Press reports have linked the striker to his former club Parma, Manchester City and Valencia.
Inter Chairman Massimo Moratti recently said it would be the "smartest" move for the striker to try to regain his scoring touch away from Milan.
Adriano, 25, has scored 25 goals in 36 appearances for Brazil.
But he only found the net five times for Inter last season.
His work ethic was questioned amid reports of a disco-going lifestyle.
Adriano joined Inter in 2001 but was loaned to Parma and then Fiorentina in the following three seasons.
He has played 99 times for Inter, scoring 43 goals.
