Advanced European Professional Training School in Volterra'Lifelong learning program' is first EU meeting of its kind - The International Advanced Professional Training School in Volterra (Pisa) is hosting the first Italian meeting for the European Union's Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP).

The programme was created by the European Parliament and European Council in 2006.

The LLP brings together all European cooperation initiatives regarding education and training from 2007 to 2013.

Sixty-seven people from 20 European countries will participate in the meeting the only one of its kind this year. The programme will maintain the responsibilities regarding the contents of the education and training systems and will respect their cultural and linguistic diversity.

''The main objective is to contribute, through lifelong learning, to the development of the EU which is a society based on knowledge, with a sustainable economic development, new and better jobs and a greater social cooperation, while at the same time guaranteeing environmental protection for future generations,'' said SIAF General Manager Ferruccio Fiordispini.

He went on to comment: ''In particular, we are proposing - within the context of the EU - exchanges and cooperation and mobility between educational and training systems so that they can become reference points for quality on a global level''.
