A photo show highlighting the courage of human and civil rights leaders arrived in Milan Monday on the first stage of a 12-city Italian tour .
In the exhibit, shots of Nobel Peace Prize winners like the Dalai Lama, Elie Wiesel, Rigoberta Menchu and Oscar Arias Sanchez are flanked by photos of lesser-known heroes in the battle to advance and defend rights around the world .
The 35 pics, all in black and white, were taken by the late US photographer Eddie Adams, who won the Pulitzer Prize in 1969 for his graphic depiction of the Vietnam War .
Presenting the Milan stage of the Courage show, Jordanian journalist and activist Rana Husseini said she had not known the extent of women's problems in the developing world until she became a reporter .
She stressed the importance of ridding patriarchal societies of phenomena like 'honour killings', stressing that they were "part of a culture, not a religion" .
'Courage', sponsored by the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation of Europe, will be at Milan's Auchan Gallery until October 29 .
It will travel to the rest of Italy by the end of next year .
