Italians have been using illegal new 'spy phones' to make sure their partners haven't been cheating on them, police said Friday.
Suspicious spouses bought the phones from a Vicenza firm and gave them to their loved ones as gifts.
The phones used software invented by a young engineer from Catanzaro to send recordings to a second machine that also tracked the targets by satellite, police said.
Using the phones, a married couple in Naples found out they were involved in a four-way love tangle with another couple living in their condominium.
Police monitoring use of the phones had to rush to a Palermo house to stop an angry wife using a knife on her unfaithful husband.
The phones were also used by employers to keep tabs on their staff and by parents to track their kids.
