Classically-trained Italian pop star Andrea Bocelli failed to win a Latin Grammy in the category of Best Male Pop Album.
The 48-year-old Tuscan crooner, who in his album 'Amor' did covers of several Spanish classics
including 'Besame Mucho' and Momentos, lost out to Ricardo Arjona and his album Adentro.
Bocelli's album was also up for an award in the category of Best Engineered Album, but here lost to Shakira's Fijación Oral Vol. 1.
The Colombia pop princess was the big winner at this year's Latin Grammy awards picking up the
awards for Best Song and Best Single for 'La Tortura', a duet with Alejandro Sunzx, while Fijación Oral
Italian pop princess Laura Paurisi won the Latin Grammy for Best Female Pop Album last year but failed to be nominated this year, as did Tiziano Ferro who has had a successful year on the Latin market.
The seventh Latin Grammy Awards ceremony took place Thursday night at New York's Madison Square Garden.
The Latin version of music's 'Oscars', for pop music in Spanish and Portuguese, are organised by is the Academia Latina de Artes y Ciencias de la Grabacion, a Miami-based multinational association.
