Oscar-winning Taiwan director Ang Lee has been named head of the jury for September's Venice Film Festival.

Lee, a multiple Oscar winner with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2001) and Brokeback Mountain (2006), won Venice's top prize, the Golden Lion, with Lust, Caution in 2007.

He also claimed the Lion for Brokeback Mountain in 2005.

Lee, 54, has also won two Golden Bears at the Berlin Film Festival, in 1993 for his breakthrough film The Wedding Banquet and in 1996 for Sense and Sensibility.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the biggest-grossing film ever not in English.

Lee's latest film, Taking Woodstock, is in post-production.

The 66th edition of the Venice Film Festival will run September 2-12.

The members of the jury were not named.
