Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, one of Napa's most celebrated estates, has been sold to a partnership of Tuscan winemaking icon Marchese Piero Antinori and Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, the largest wine company in Washington State.

The sale includes the brand, the cellars and 60 hectares of vineyards in the Napa Valley. The former owners, the Winiarski family, will maintain ownership of the celebrated Arcadia vineyard, while the SLV and Fay vineyards go to the new owners.

The deal stipulates that oenologist Warren Winiarski will stay on as a consultant for three years.

"Stag's Leap Wine Cellars perfectly fits our shared vision of producing wines from historic vineyard sites, and is a terrific complement to our estate wineries in Washington, Oregon and California," said Ted Baseler, president of Ste. Michelle Wine Estates.

"There are few places in the world this ideal for the production of wine", said Piero Antinori about his recently acquired vineyards.
