Production levels, sales increase in first trimester - The industrial goldsmith sector in Arezzo, one of the most important in Italy, has made an economic recovery according to a report by the Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Industries.
After a long period of stagnancy, the goldsmith sector has made a positive comeback in the first trimester of 2007, both in terms of production output (+3.3%) and in terms of sales (+2.3%).
Figures by national statistics bureau Istat have also shown a 5.9% rise in export sales.
Although national demand has dropped (-1.6%), export sales have increased by 2.5%.
The sector's low employment rate has dropped slightly (-0.3%) due to the after effects of the previous period of stagnation.
The report released by the Chamber of Commerce adds that "the price of precious metals used in the manufacturing phase has consistently grown since last year".
