David Beckham said he had ''a great time'' in his unexpected Serie A debut in AC Milan's 2-2 draw at Roma Sunday night.

''It was really enjoyable,'' said the 33-year-old England midfielder who is playing for Milan until the end of March to keep match fit in the hope of stretching his international career.

''I didn't expect to feel so good,'' said the ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid player after his first competitive match since the US soccer league ended in October.

Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti, who was not expected to field Beckham from the start, said he was ''very satisfied'' with the ''workmanlike'' performance of his star loan from the La Galaxy, who played almost all the match.

Beckham's debut was hailed by Italian dailies Monday with Corriere della Sera quoting Italy great Giancarlo Antognoni as saying ''he kicks the ball like no one else'' and La Repubblica saying ''the star turned worker''.

The draw, courtesy of two Pato goals, kept third-placed Milan nine points behind leaders Inter Milan who were held 1-1 by Cagliari at the San Siro Saturday.

Juventus drew closer in second, four points behind Inter, after a trademark Alessandro Del Piero freekick put paid to Siena.
