David Beckham was mobbed by fans at Rome airport Friday as he and his AC Milan team-mates arrived back from a training break in Dubai for Sunday night's Serie A clash against AS Roma.
About a hundred fans followed the black-clad star from the airport exit to the team coach, flashing camera phones and calling to the England star.
Female fans of all ages were the most vocal in their enthusiastic welcome for the 33-year-old midfielder, who is playing with Milan for three months to boost his hopes of stretching his international career.
Police had to hold them off so the team could reach the coach safely, reporters said.
Beckham, who is on loan from the LA Galaxy, is expected to be on the bench for third-placed Milan's visit to the Olimpico.
