Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi said Thursday that United States President George Bush had proposed an extraordinary meeting of the Group of Eight richest nations Tuesday to discuss the global credit crisis.
''I have said I am available for that and other dates,'' said the premier, who added that Bush was sounding out the other six leaders for a meeting to take place in Washington or New York.
''We have already done what we had to, which was to stop the panic and the anxiety of the savers,'' he said.
Berlusconi is already set to fly to the US for talks with Bush on Monday, when he said he will also talk with presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and John McCain by phone.
