Pré-Saint-Didier received the Entente Florale Award, during the ceremony organized in Cardiff last September.
The Italian comune of Pré-Saint-Didier in the Aosta Valley, won one of the four gold medals while the Avigliana village in the Piedmont Torino Province took the silver one.
Among the 22 European towns and villages competing for the the Entente Florale Award 2009, the gold medals have been given to: Forres (UK), Olimje (Slovenia) and Cork (Ireland). The International Competition, whose aims are social and cultural development to enhance horticulture, tourism and environment, was organized by A.E.F.P. and Etente Florale Europe.
The Italian village was voted unanimously by a jury who visited it during last summer. The winner had to satisfy different criteria such as: vegetation and landscape, environment, tourism and involvement.
The 960-habitants village has also a spa resort. Its hot waters are rich of natural elements treating rheumatic diseases. Easily reachable by train from the town of Aosta, Pré-Saint-Didier also offers a bus service connecting to the surrounding ski resorts of Courmayeur and La Thuile.

In the past years two other Italian towns took the prestigious Award. Limone, in the Torino province took the gold medal in 2007, while Cervia won the silver medal in 2008.
