While less and less Italian movies are being made, there is a new film industry that is prospering in Italy, and more specifically in Lombardy: Bollywood.
In trying to lure foreign customers, the Italian Film Commission has found Indian troupes are more than willing to temporarily move to Italy during monsoon period so they can keep shooting. And Indian viewers are more than happy to dream of Italy watching Lake Como, Vigevano, Milan’s Piazza Duomo and other locations on the big screen.
In the last 18 months, 14 Indian productions have arrived in the region of Lombardy, bringing earnings for the local economy worth 11 million Euro.
