Brunetta the spoilsport?

Italy’s Civil Service Minister, Renato Brunetta, has upset State employees by ruling that they will not be able to use time permits – usually used for medical appointments or to care for a sick relative – to finish work early in order to watch Italy’s World Cup fixtures.

If the employees are that desperate to watch a match, they should take a whole day’s holiday leave, says Mr Brunetta, who told ANSA,

“Fun is one thing and work is another”.

The consumer association Codacons has backed Mr Brunetta but says that he must set an example by working through the matches himself.

The Italian team plays its first match in the 2010 World Cup tournament tonight.

Is Mr Brunetta a spoilsport?
