The 10th edition of the animated TV and film festival Cartoons on the Bay will be staged in Positano April 5 to 9 with 40 films from 13 countries competing for the Pulcinella (Punch) Awards.
Among the films to be shown will be Zero Decree by Iranian Omid Khoshnazar, an animated parable on the drama of war and a soldier's solitude. Italy has entered Monster Allergy and The Adventures of Aladin, co-produced by state broadcaster RAI, while Disney will present its new productions Little Einsteins and The Buzz on Maggie.
This year's Studio of the Year award will be shared by California's DIC entertainment and Italy's Enarmonia.
DIC Entertainment produces animated films and series for children and the family which are distributed in over 200 countries.
Among its successful productions are Dennis the Menace, Inspector Gadget and Sabria the Witch.
Set up in Turin in 1999, Enarmonia has quickly become one of Italy's leading animated production houses and has already completed 17 full-length features and more than 20 TV series, including Laura's Star, based on the stories about a sweet and shy girl written by Germany's Klaus Baumgart.
As the only event of its kind, Cartoons On The Bay traditionally attracts hundreds of representatives from
around the world, drawn by the commercial potential of the animations.
This year films will be arriving from Belgium, Canada, Britain, South Korea, Finland, France, Germany, Japan,Slovenia and Spain, as well as Italy, Iran and the USA.
The festival is also an occasion to showcase new projects, both finished and in pre-production.
