America pop star Michael Jackson chose Italian designer Roberto Cavalli to take care of the wardrobe for his comeback here Wednesday night at the 18th World Music Awards ceremony.
A statement from the Italian fashion house said Cavalli had met with the 'King of Pop' in Dublin two weeks ago to decide on the look Jackson wanted for his first public performance since being acquitted on child molestation charges in June 2005 and first appearance on a British stage in nine years.
Cavalli prepared two suits, a dinner jacket, several shirts and a cape for the performer, all of which were made in Florence.
"Michael Jackson is a musical icon. It was a great honor for me to design something special for him. His personal style has had a great influence on the pop culture," Cavalli said in a statement.
The 48-year-old singer had been rumored to perform songs from his hit album 'Thriller' at the WMA ceremony but disappointed fans by limiting his stage act to sing only a few verses of his 1985 charity hit 'We are the World', which he sang with a child chorus.
Jackson attended the ceremony to receive an award for his album 'Thriller', which has sold over 100 million copies worldwide.
