The Cavalli brand will soon appear on a new line but it will not be one of clothes but of wine.
Cavalli Section is the brainchild of Tommaso Cavalli, the son of famed designer Roberto, who has spent the past eight years turning the family's country estate from a horse farm into a vineyard.
Producing wine and creating fashion are not that different, Tommaso observed, because in producing wine ''you have to judge the weave of the land and the thread of the vine stem, design rows of grapevines, interlace the grapes and give them a stylish cut''.
Cavalli Section will have its premiere on Saturday in Florence.
Roberto Cavalli bought his estate 30 years ago in the village of Panzano in Chianti and initially it served as a country getaway for the designer and his family.
Tommaso later decided to turn it into a working farm and started by breeding horses for harness racing.
In 2000, he decided to turn the farm into a vineyard and flung himself full-time into developing a quality wine.
