Center right sweeps local vote in Sicily

The center right triumphed in the eight provincial votes held in Sicily on Sunday and Monday winning all that was up for grabs, including the three 'red' provinces of Ennma Caltanissetta and Siracusa.

A coalition made up of the People of Freedom party (PDL)- a union of Premier Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia party and the right-wing National Alliance - the centrist UDC and the southern based Christian Democrats MPA took 72.3% of the votes in the province of Palermo, 77.62% in Catania76.01% in Messina, 65.79% in Trapani, 67.88% in Agrigento, 68.55% in Siracusa, , 53.87% in Enna and 63.5% in Caltanissetta.

The center right also won the races for mayor in Messina and Catania, while the center left will not even be in an apparent runoff vote in Siracusa, which will be between the center-right candidate and the one presented by the hard right party La Destra.
