Technicians from China and Israel have been studying the characteristics of Mondeggi's new high-tech olive press, located in the hills of Bagno a Ripoli, near Florence.

The project is sponsored by Alfa Laval's Business Unit Olive Oil a sector leader in olive press machinery.

The Fattoria di Mondeggi, now property of the province of Florence, represents one of the few space where it is possible to carry out applied research in the field of oil technology, agricultural energy and agricultural meteorology.

In particular, the guests of the two delegations are interested in the production of high gamma oil and in the new extraction and purification system for sunflower seed oil used for energy being developed at the University of Florence.

The 273 hectare press employs 148 people in the agricultural sector composed primarily of olive groves, vineyards and seed fields. Oil and wine are sold bottled and 'loose', both to wholesalers and consumers.
