AS Roma right wing-back Cicinho's season is over after he snapped his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in training Sunday for Roma's Champions League round of 16 second leg against Arsenal at the Olimpico Wednesday.
Cicinho, 28, will need about six months to recover from surgery on the injury which was confirmed by tests Monday.
It is the second ACL operation for the Brazil defender, who was out for six months during his second season with Real Madrid from 2006-2007.
Before joining Real for four million euros in 2005, Cicinho played for Sao Paulo where he won the 2005 Club World Cup.
That year he was also in the Brazil team that won the Confederations Cup.
Cicinho joined Roma for 11 million euros on a five-year contract in August 2007.
He has played 39 times for them, scoring seven goals.
Since earning his first Brazil cap in 2005 he has turned out 17 times for his country and scored one goal.
Roma are looking to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Arsenal.
Skipper Francesco Totti is fighting to be fit after missing the first leg.
