Coach kick earns ban

Catania coach Silvio Baldini has been banned for a month for kicking Parma counterpart Domenico Di Carlo in the backside during a Serie A match on Sunday.

Baldini, whose unprecedented act sparked outrage across Italian soccer, also received a 15,000-euro fine.

Baldini on Monday apologised for his "mistake" but said he couldn't forgive Di Carlo for "provoking" him. However, late on Monday he relented under pressure from TV pundits.

After a heated verbal row near the end of Sunday's 2-2 draw, Baldini was sent off but walked back to his opposite number and landed a kick squarely in his backside.

The ban, which lasts until the end of September, means Baldini will miss five Serie A fixtures and an Italian Cup game.

The first match Baldini will miss is Catania's home game against Genoa on Sunday - the Sicilian side's first home match since a policeman was killed in a riot outside the ground in February.
