Spaghetti, the icon of Italian cuisine, have been put in a small kit called takeaway spaghetti containing all necessary ingredients to prepare this
simple and inimitable recipe. The black stylised package in a form of the Mount Vesuvius with a chilli on top contains spaghetti, typical small tomato from the Vesuvius area, basil and even a small bottle of original Neapolitan water.
The idea was introduced by Vesuvio International Foods, a subsidiary of STS Group, which is ready to launch the kit to the market diversifying its activity and filling a niche in the distribution of food products.
"Our experience in the tourist sector taught us that the foreigners visiting Naples and Campania are searching mostly the aromas and flavours of our land", Domenico Sannino, STS Group's CEO, said. Then why not give them a chance to take some of these flavours with them? We also thought of something aesthetical and easy to carry due to the characteristics of the potential buyers. This is how the takeaway spaghetti was created
as the essentials of the typical Italian cuisine. The flavour is linked to the health given the fact that all products included in the kit are organic and bear the brand of the Vesuvius National Park.
Sannino said that the target market are obviously the tourists visiting our region but also, targeting a higher segment, conference goers visiting Naples for business given the kit's functionality and adaptability to easily become a gadget.
It is a marketing strategy staking on quality rather than on quantity and in fact the first batch of production will be of 5,000 units and will be marketed through retail operations present in the major sites of tourist interest and traffic in the area of Naples and Vesuvius such as the Capodichino Airport, the Stazione Marittima port and the Pompeii excavations.
The distribution in Naples' major hotels is also planned, while there are already projects for exports in 2007 basing on the preliminary interest received.
