Cortona museums see more than 100,000 visitors in 2007Three museums in Etruscan city - Cortona is a small Etruscan town located in the Val di Chiana (near Arezzo).

According to data released by the local government, the city's three museums the Museo dell'Accademia Etrusca, the Fortezza del Girifalco and the Museo Diocesano welcomed over 100,000 visitors in 2007.

Cortona mayor Andrea Vignini commented: ''This number communicates only a fraction of how much the area's museums influence the city's tourism and the development of the territory in terms of accommodations, restaurants, businesses and tourist services''.

The Museo dell'Accademia Etrusca welcomed a record 50,000 visitors; the Fortezza del Girifalco had 12,000 visitors in six months; and the Museo Diocesano counted 40,000 visitors over the course of the year.
