Italy's top court on Thursday corrected a recent ruling which appeared to OK the growing and selling of marijuana plants for allegedly ornamental purposes.
The Cassation Court said that, in fact, it was illegal to grow ''even a single plant'' in one's house.
It recalled that Italy's new drug law allowed the possession of small amounts of 'soft' drugs for personal use but ''this legality cannot be extended to growing drugs''. The court was forced to clear up its position after an October ruling that acquitted a man caught with five pots of marijuana in his bath.
He claimed they were waiting to be sold to clients as home decor.
In November, the president of the court backpedalled from the original ruling but said it was all right to grow marijuana in ''insignificant'' quantities.
