A group of Italian deer have taken a strong fancy to cannabis two men were growing on a northern mountain top to escape police attention.
Forest guards were alerted when the normally shy animals started flocking to the exposed peak in broad daylight.
Paying a visit to the site, the agents found a collection of scattered pots and "completely shredded" plants, officials said Thursday.
After the news broke, locals said the deer had been "unusually frisky" of late, taking "huge bounds" around the mountainside.
The men, a student and a factory worker in their 20s, face charges for growing controlled substances.
Lawyers say they may beat the rap because the evidence has been destroyed.
