Italian Alpine skier Mirko Deflorian received an 18-month doping ban for cocaine use on Monday after anti-doping authorities appealed against an earlier acquittal.
Cocaine metabolites were found in Deflorian's system following a test on February 19.
Deflorian, 25, was a strong giant slalom hopeful in the early 2000s, finishing 5th and 6th in successive World Cup events in 2004.
But his early promise has failed to fully blossom.
