Ex-Italy football coach Roberto Donadoni was sluiced with water on Wednesday evening as he dined with friends at a restaurant while on holiday at this Puglia coastal resort.
The 44-year-old coach was sitting outside when somebody tipped a bucket of water onto his table from the roof of an old tower that overlooks the restaurant, drenching Donadoni and his dinner companions.
Donadoni's career as Italy coach came to an abupt end last month in the wake of a disappointing Euro 2008, with Italy knocked out in a penalty shoot-out by Spain in the quarter-finals.
The former wing great for AC Milan and Italy was slammed by critics first for switching players too often and not sticking to a game plan, and later for keeping faith with the players who had got Italy into the tournament.
Donadoni was replaced by 2006 World Cup winner Marcello Lippi, who stepped back into his old job.
