Voter turnout for Italians resident abroad was 41.6% compared to 42.07% in the 2006 elections, outgoing Junior Foreign Minister Franco Danieli said on Friday.
Despite a sight decline in the percentage of Italians voting abroad, more ballots were cast for this election than two years ago, he added.
A total of 2,924,202 Italians abroad were eligible to vote in this general election, compared to 2,707,988 two years ago, with a total of 1,204,720 ballots cast compared to 1,135,617 in 2006.
Italians abroad elect a total of 12 members of the House and six of the Senate.
Italians abroad vote at least a week before the general election so their ballots can arrive in Italy in time to be counted together with the others cast in the April 13-14 national poll.
