F1: Raikkonen spurns simulatorsFerrari's Kimi Raikkonen said on Wednesday that he could do without the computerised track simulators that other Formula 1 drivers have used to prepare for the Japanese Grand Prix.

Sunday's race, in which Raikkonen hopes to close in on McLaren's championship leaders Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, will be first Grand Prix held at the renovated Fuji circuit in Tokyo.

For this reason several drivers - including Raikkonen's Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa - have been using a simulator to get used to the track's new curves and chicanes.

"To be honest that's something I don't like," said the Finn in slightly scornful comments posted on the Ferrari website.

"I've never played with a PlayStation or used a simulator and I don't think my performance has suffered. I've always been able to get to know a new track very fast," he continued.

Raikkonen, who is 13 points behind Hamilton with three races to go, said he preferred to prepare for races on unfamiliar tracks simply by walking around them. He said he would be doing this on Thursday night, before Friday's first practice session.

The 27-year-old driver admitted that he had no choice but to go for victory on Sunday because he needed 10 points to keep his championship hopes alive. He hinted that he would be going for broke.

"The two McLarens are well ahead and obviously they don't want to make any stupid mistakes. I have nothing to lose".
