Italian driver Giancarlo Fisichella found himself without a ride on Monday after Renault Formula 1 boss Flavio Britatore announced that the team would have two new drivers next season.
''Next year we're certainly going to have two different drivers,'' Briatore said on a popular radio sports show.
When quizzed by the press about Briatore's remarks, Fisichella said: ''I haven't spoken to him. Right now there's nothing official''.
''I'd certainly like to continue racing in Formula 1. I'll have to look around to see what my options are,'' he added.
The Roman, who turns 35 next January, had high hopes for a title bid at the start of the past season when he became senior driver at Renault following the departure of then-world champion Fernando Alonso.
His dreams of a crack at the title never materialised, however, and he finished the season in eighth place with only 21 points, compared to the 110 points of 2007 champion Kimi Raikkonen, in his first year at Ferrari.
Alonso's ambitions at McLaren-Mercedes also fell short and he left the British-German team by mutual agreement after only one year, during which he fell under the shadow of his 22-year-old Formula 1 rookie teammate, Lewis Hamilton.
The two-time Spanish champion appears set to make a return to Renault, a possibility which Briatore said was ''60%''.
''Everyone would like to have Alonso and offers have been made also by Toyota and Red Bull. He'll probably make a decision in the next few days,'' Briatore said.
''We have an advantage because we know him. But it's not easy when you're married, break up and then try and get back together again,'' the Renault boss added.
Alonso won the 2005 and 2006 two titles with Renault, which those years also won the constructors' championship.
Ferrari won this year's constructors' title after season leader McLaren was stripped of all its points for unlawful possession of Ferrari technical documents.
