The new Ferrari F60 has performed well in tests but its real 'countercheck' will be this weekend, when the Formula 1 season kicks off with the Australia GP in Melbourne, driver Kimi Raikkonen said on Monday.
''In Melbourne we will all be using the same fuel and be on the track all together. Only then we'll see how strong we are, although we may have to wait for a couple of races to have a clearer picture,'' the 2007 world champion explained in an interview posted on the Ferrari media website.
The Finn, also known as 'the Iceman', added that ''as usual I can't wait to start a new season. It seems such a long time since the last race in Brazil. And considering all the changes to the car, it will be really interesting to see how it all works''.
''I can confirm, however, that I like the F60 more than last year's car. It's much more fun to drive and it reminds me more of the cars I was used to some years ago,'' Raikkonen said.
''The KERS is very interesting and easy to use and I hope that it will make overtaking easier. From the first test the whole team has been impressed how well it works,'' he added.
KERS is an acronym for 'kinetic energy recovery system' and is a device designed to exploit energy produced from braking.
Looking ahead to the new season, Raikkonen said it was important to remember how the last two seasons ended in regard to the drivers' championship.
''I won the title with one point in 2007 and my teammate was one point short in 2008. That means that every point counts. Two years ago I won in Australia, while we had problems last year. Our goal is to immediately gain some good points,'' he said.
