Ferrari sales up 14% in 2007Italian luxury car maker Ferrari, which is part of the Fiat group, sold 6,400 cars in 2007, 14% more than in 2006, Director General Amedeo Felisa said at the Detroit Motor Show in the United States.

Operating profit accounted for 15% of Ferrari's turnover last year, according to figures released as the car maker presented its new prototype F430 Spider in Detroit.

Ferrari has more than 1,850 orders for its Scuderia model, 500 of them in the US. The orders for Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano currently total 430.

The sales of the luxury car maker in the Asia Pacific and the Middle East jumped by 50% and 32%, respectively in 2007.

Ferrari sold 177 cars in China, which is expected to become its fifth largest market in five to six years.

Sales in North, Central and South America went up 8% to 1,851 cars. The sales in the USA totalled 1,700 units, up 4.3%.

Ferrari sold 61 cars in Canada. The sales in Central and South America stood at 90 cars.

The Italian luxury car maker has 32 outlets in the USA, four in Canada and nine in South America.

Ferrari distributors in North America spent over $70 mln (47.9 mln euros) over the last three years to improve infrastructure, and they plan to invest $30 mln (20.5 mln euro) in 2008.

Germany and the UK are Ferrari's second and third largest markets.
