Fiat is keen to expand in China, CEO Sergio Marchionne said Monday.
The Turin car giant has a target of producing 300,000 cars in China by 2010 and is reassessing its partnership with Nanjing Automotive Corp with that goal in mind, he said.
"We're continuing to talk to Nanjing and we shall see," he said.
Marchionne recently told the Financial Times that Fiat was unhappy with the development of its partnership with Nanjing and might soon change partners.
He said Nanjing Auto had been "distracted" by its project to relaunch the British-based marque MG.
Fiat was considering expanding its existing alliances with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp (SAIC) and Chery Automobile, he said.
"We want to get to a production of 300,000 cars by 2010. If (Nanjing) follows us in that direction, fine, otherwise we'll see."
