Fiat market leader in Brazil 2007Italian car maker Fiat was the preferred brand on the Brazilian market for a third year in a row in 2007.

The car market in Brazil enjoyed a considerable uspurge in 2007 with a 30% rise in car sales compared to 2006.

According to data from Brazilian car makers association Fenabrave, Fiat gained a 26% share of the local market, followed by German Volkswagen with 23% and General Motors with a share of 22%.

Car sales on the Brazilian market hit a record of 2.36 million in 2007, while the number of sold trucks stood at 119,000 and the sales of motorcycles reached 1.709 million.

Fiat's Palio was the second most sold model in Brazil in 2007, while its Uno ranked third, the Siena model was seventh and its pick-up Strada ranked ninth.

The biggest success was Fiat's Grande Punto model, whose sales over the six months since its launch on the Brazilian market equalled the sales of its competitors registered for the whole year.
