Project brings together Santa Caterina, Florence Province - A new Florentine architecture, design and fashion school could open in Brazil's Santa Caterina - a state with a high concentration of textile businesses.

The initiative centres on two documents signed recently in Florence - the first initiates an official 'Sister City' relationship between the Florence Province and the Brazilian state government.

The second is between Polimoda and the Santa Caterina de Moda Contemporanea which seeks possible collaboration in the fashion education and training field.

The majority of the textile factories are in the Itajai valley, located in the northeast corner of Santa Caterina.

The industry boasts annual profits upwards of $400 million and numbers over 10,000 employees.

Meetings between the various parties have so far focused on sustaining development by concentrating on educational initiatives.
