The arrivals of foreign tourists in Italy climbed 7.6% in the first eight months of the year over the same period in 2006, Touring Club Italiano (TCI) said.
Foreign tourists' arrivals for all 2006 rose 12.3 pct year-on-year, while the spending over the period went up 6.7 pct on the year.
Spending by foreign tourists in the first eight months of 2007 grew 1.7% to an average of 82 euros per capita daily.
From 2000 to 2005 Italy's foreign tourist arrivals fell by an average 2.4% annually, while the emerging tourism destinations like Turkey, Egypt and Croatia registered significant rises of arrivals of 16.2%, 11.1%and 7.7% respectively.
Tourist arrivals worldwide totalled 610 million between January and August 2007, up 5.6% on the year.
Asia Pacific and Africa registered a hike of foreign tourists by 10.2% and 8.4% respectively compared to the same period a year earlier.
Europe's arrivals of foreign tourists climbed 4.2% during the same period.
