A fugitive member of the neofascist terrorist group NAR (Revolutionary Armed Nuclei) has been nabbed in Brazil after 26 years on the run.
Pierluigi Bragaglia, 48, was arrested in the seaside resort town of Ilhabela, north of Sao Paolo, where he was said to be the owner-operator of an inn.
At the moment of his arrest, Bragaglia was reported to be in possession of false identity papers and a pistol.
Italian police are said to have tracked him down last April and informed the Brazilian police, with whom they carried out the Thursday night arrest.
In Italy, Bragaglia faces a 12-year, 11-months prison sentence for a number of crimes including armed robbery, kidnapping, trafficking in stolen goods, illegal possession of firearms, terrorism and subversion.
He has been living in Brazil under a false Venezuelan identity.
NAR was active in Italy in the late 1970s and early '80s and is believed to have also engaged in joint operations with organized crime groups.
