This year's 'Tall Ships' Mediterranean regatta will wind up in Genoa after making stops in Alicante, Barcelona and Tolone.
The picturesque competition will feature 12 of the majestic square riggers in the 'class A' category and some 50 boats in other categories.
The regatta begins on July 4 and arrives in Genoa for the final stage from July 28 to 31.
"The Tall Ships are finally coming back to Genoa. The capital of the region of Liguria will become a showcase of parades, sports tournaments, entertainment shows and cultural initiatives," promised Matteo Bruzzo, chairman of the Sail Training Association Italy and one of the event's organizers.
"But above all the crews will be the real stars, over 2,000 people from all over the world and half of them between the ages of 16 and 25," he added.
Italy will be represented in the regatta with its tall ships Amerigo Vespucci and Palinuro, which will compete against Guayas from Ecuador, Russia's Mir, Argentina's Libertad, Capitan Miranda from Uruguay, the French ship Belle Poule and Windrose from the Netherlands.
