Cheese-makers in this small town near Naples have outdone themselves in making the world's largest mozzarella cheese.
The Sala Consilina specialists stretched their own mozzarella citation in the Guinness Book of Records, set last year.
The 35 artisans worked all day Sunday, despite sometimes violent rain showers, to twist three 70m coils of the famed soft white cheese into a final cord measuring some 56.5m.
This was 13.7m longer than last year's record of 42.8m.
"It was hard because of the rain but we're very happy," said the head of the local mozzarella association, Enzo Afragola.
