Handsome young clergymen, an elderly Sophia Loren, football stars and teen-age idols are being joined by twelve grey-haired grannies in Italy's annual calendar craze.
Italy is perhaps the European country with the biggest calendar fixation, and this year the parish priest of the small southern Italian town of Caggiano has decided to give the fad a new twist.
For Don Vittoio Lamattina, the brains behind the unusual photo shoot, the twelve grandmothers are such "a vital part of the local community" that they deserved the honour of marking the passage of time.
The priest made sure that every resident received a copy of the calendar so that the grannies will keep them company throughout the year.
"These women patiently and diligently try to make our world a better place," he said, explaining why he came up the project.
