Gucci profits up 30%

Italian luxury goods group Gucci closed 2007 with an operating profit of 730 mln euros ($1.102 bln), up 29.3% year-on-year.

The group's turnover reached 3.8 bln euros ($5.737 bln), while its profit margin increased to 18.9% from 15.9%.

The Gucci brand booked an operating profit of 647 mln euros ($976.7 mln), rising by 5.7%, while its turnover climbed 11% to 2.1 bln euros ($3.17 bln).

The number of its stores rose to 233 from 219 throughout 2007 with an objective to reach 250 in 2008.

The group's Bottega Veneta brand saw its operating profit soaring by 68.9% to 92 mln euros ($138.9 mln), while its turnover went up 49% to 366 mln euros ($552.5 mln).

The Yves Saint Laurent brand cut operating loss by 35%, bringing it to 31 mln euros ($46.8 mln) and generating a turnover of 221 mln euros ($333.6 mln), compared to 194 mln euros ($292.9 mln).

Gucci Group comprises the Bottega Veneta, Yves Saint Laurent, YSL, Boucheron, Sergio Rossi, Balenciaga, Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen brands.

The group is a unit of French retail group Pinault-Printemps-Redoute (PPR).
