The small town of Spilamberto in Emilia-Romagna, half-way between Modena and Bologna, is characteristic of this affluent and culture-loving region of Italy. One of the jewels of the town is a wonderful antiques shop named Ossimoro, run by father and son team Luigi Bianchi and Sergio Bianchi.
Ossimoro is well know for the particular flair brought to it in recent years by the son Sergio Bianchi, who redesigned the shop uniting strong modern images with lovingly restored antiques, exemplified by the shop’s logo – a Warholesque rendition of “Madonna della seggiolaâ€.
One of the many innovations brought to the Ossimoro antique shop by Sergio Bianchi are the various exhibitions held within the shop, with the latest one being a particular coup. As of the 11th of June and up to the 9th of July, Ossimoro is hosting some original works prepared specifically for this exhibition by artist Guliano della Casa.
As highly acclaimed art historian and critic Sir Ernst Gombrich wrote of Giuliano della Casa: “Anyone who has had the privilege to observe Giuliano della Casa while he is painting will understand: when the marks from his brush conjure up either abstract forms or fleeting images of flowers and butterflies, they truly reveal the excellence of the artist.
The exhibition at the Ossimoro antique shop will also include an original work of Guliano della Casa commissioned by Sergio Bianchi of the “Madonna della seggiolaâ€, as well as ceramics created in collaboration with the Bottega Gatti of Faenza.
