Giuliano Procacci, author of one of the most widely used histories of Italy, died Thursday in Rome at the age of 82.
Procacci's 1968 book 'Storia degli Italiani', translated two years later as History of the Italian People, is still a standard text for Italian and foreign students.
It was revised and updated in 2003 and 2006.
In recent years Procacci wrote books about Italian colonial aggression in Ethiopia and criticised claims that a 'civil war' broke out in Italy after the Liberation.
