Flash News - Biotechnology, informational systems are key players - Tuscan business relations are increasing in India thanks to developments in the biotechnology and informational systems sectors. In an effort to strengthen ties between the two areas, an Indian delegation has chosen to kick off their Italian visit in Florence.

The delegation is made up of governmental and private sector representatives from Mumbai and Bangalore. The visit comes in the wake of 'Namaste India', the largest event organized by the Italo-Indian Chamber of Commerce.

Tuscany was chosen for its recent increase in trade with India, mainly within the hi-tech industry. The sector includes 23 biotech companies which represent 10% of the total Italian production, and 600 IT firms active in securities, robotics and telephone technology.

Until recently, biotech and IT have remained in the shadows of the commercial dynamics between Tuscany and India. Commercial trade between Tuscany and India totals approximately 284 million euro in imports and 183 million in exports (2006 data) for a comprehensive growth of 36%.
