Industrial output in Italy declined in June in respect to both the previous month and the same month last year, national statistics bureau Istat reported on Monday.
Output fell 0.1% compared to June 2006 and 0.5% over May.
When adjusted for the number of working days, industrial output in June was still off 0.1% from June 2006, Istat added.
Output in the first half of the year was 1.2% higher than the same period in 2006, but this increase was reduced to 0.8% when corrected for the number of working days, Istat said.
Automobile production bucked the national trend leaping 22.2% in June over the same month last year, while for the first half of 2007 it was up 2.8%.
Overall motor vehicle production climbed 18% over June 2006 and was 19.1% higher when adjusted for working days.
Motor vehicle production for the first six months of the year was up 6.4% and 5.7% when corrected for working days.
