If given the choice, Italians would prefer to be paid less if this gave them more free time, according to a new study.

A poll taken by the magazine Focus found that 57% of those interviewed would sacrifice some pay if this meant they had more time to read, 37.2% said they would dedicate their extra time to listening to music or watching TV, 26% would spend more time with family and friends, 12.8% would travel, 8.6% would just 'chill' and 7.5% would use their extra free time to engage in sports.

In order to gain free time, 25.4% of the women quizzed said they would accept jobs which would allow them to work from the home, while 63% of both men and women said they were convinced that new technologies helped save time.

However, 42.9 of the women interviewed said they saved time by going to shops and only 22.8 felt confident buying online.

Internet buying was the preferred method of purchase for 30% of the men interviewed, while 34.4% said they liked doing business in shops.
