Juventus, Inter and Roma are in sick bay ahead of their midweek Champions League games against Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.
Juve, who are hoping to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg at Stamford Bridge, lost Mimmo Sissoko to a season-ending foot fracture in their 1-0 Turin derby win and will also be without Mauro Germanesi against Chelsea Tuesday night.
Inter, who go to Old Trafford Wednesday after a 0-0 draw at the San Siro two weeks ago, will be without Cristian Chivu, Marco Materazzi and Nicolas Burdisso as they seek to advance to the quarter-finals.
''I'm used to playing with the same defence. This is ridiculous,'' said coach Jose' Mourinho after a 2-0 win at Genoa kept the champs seven points clear of Juve.
Roma also has injury trouble ahead of Wednesday's home game against Arsenal where they need to overturn a 1-0 defeat at the Emirates.
Brazilian flanker Cicinho saw his season end with a cruciate injury in training Sunday. Daniele De Rossi is banned but Francesco Totti should make his long-awaited return from injury.
Roma could only draw with Udinese leaving them on 45 points, the same as Genoa and one behind Fiorentina who lost 2-0 at home to Palermo.
The results allowed Milan, who beat Atalanta 3-0 at the San Siro, to open up a five-point lead over their pursuers for the last automatic Champions berth, a result that would mean coach Carlo Ancelotti keeps his job.
Milan, who are still five behind Juve and 12 behind Inter, also saw the expected happy end to the David Beckham loan extension saga.
''I'm delighted, I can continue to live my dream,'' said the 33-year-old England midfielder after reportedly shelling out some seven million euros of his own cash to keep playing for Milan until the end of June.
Beckham said he was ''hoping'' to return from the LA Galaxy next winter to bid for a place in Fabio Capello's World Cup 2010 side.
