Italy will be hit by a nationwide 8-hour urban transport strike on Friday, April 28, called by unions over a pay dispute.
The strike will involve buses, trolleys and metro systems and will be staged at different times in different cities.
In Rome and Naples the strike will be from 8.30am to 4.30pm; in Milan from 8.45am to 3pm and then from 6pm to 7.30pm; in Turin from 9am to 12 noon and then from 4.45pm to 9.45pm; in Florence from 3.30pm to 11.30pm; in Bologna from 11am to 4.30pm and from 7.30pm to 10pm; and in Bari from 8.30am to 12.30pm and from 3.30pm to 7.30pm.
This will be the second time, after a four-hour strike on March 6, that transport workers have stayed off the job over their demand for a 6% pay hike to compensate for inflation and protect salary buying power.
Management has rejected the demand on the grounds that there are no financial resources for the pay increase and has so far refused to enter into negotiations with unions.
The 6% pay increase would add an average of 110 euros to wage packets.
