The other day I rang close friend of mine, a good Catholic boy, to find out what he believes Easter means. ‘Hmmm’ he said pondering a while ‘Easter? Well, I guess I would have to say that it’s the time of year for chocolate’ then having been transported momentarily into Easter egg heaven he quickly checked himself and added ‘and it’s the time to think about the resurrection of Christ of course’. Resurrection, Renaissance, renewal, rejuvenation, restoration and chocolate - this season, whether you’re religious or not, offers all of the above in Italy. The weather is perfectly warm and there are lots of exciting and fascinating things to see and do. For those not able to wait until the summer, this season also means a few early trips to the beach and of course, for all of us golose, it means an abundance of divine Uovo di Pasqua and moorish Colomba cake.
