Italy's PSBR drops in 2006 to lowest since 2000Italy's public sector borrowing requirement last year declined to 27 billion euros, 7.6 billion euros less than 2006 and its lowest since 2000, the economy ministry said on Wednesday.

The PSBR was also lower than the target of 28 billion euros set by the government in its 2007 budget.

Commenting on the PSBR figures, Economy Minister Tommaso Padia-Schioppa said that while Italy's finances were still not in order, the country was firmly on its way to achieve its goal of balancing the budget.
